ITF Eireann Emerald Cup Fight Night, Cork

ITF Eireann hosted an ITF fight night in the Silversprings Hotel, Cork on Friday 24th September. 4 fighters from Taekwon-Do Ireland took part, Paul Manning (Blackrock), David O'Mahony (Blackrock), David O'Sullivan (Crosshaven) and Catherine O'Sullivan (Crosshaven). Other associations present were, Blarney UTI, Family Martial Arts Mayfield, Taekwon-Do Alliance, Bannar Martial Arts & East Coast Taekwon-Do. It was an enjoyable night and the spectators provided a great atmosphere for the fighers.

Beginners Welcome

Thinking of trying Taekwon-Do? Beginners are always welcome in the club. So far this year, members of the club have won 6 medals at major international events in South Korea and England(2 gold, 2 silvers & 2 bronze). Taekwon-Do International World Championships, Telford 2010

4 fighters from Blackrock took part in the recent 9th Open Taekwon-Do World Championships which was held in Telford, Birmingham. This was a massive event with several thousand competitiors from all over the world (Colour Belts & Black Belts)taking part. First to fight was Julie Buckley in the Womens Lightweight Blue Belt section. Julie fought her way to the final but was then beaten by a very strong Polish opponent and had to settle for a Silver Medal. Next up was Gavin O'Brien. Gavin was fighting in the  mens middle weight Yellow Belt section.

Back to Training

The summer break is over and we are back training. Class times are Mondays & Wednesdays 7 to 8pm. There will also be an sparring class from 8 to 9pm on both nights. This is optional for all students. There is a beginner class for kids on Mondays nights from 6pm to 7pm. Contact blackrocktkd@gmail.com if you would like to book a place in this class. Adult/Teenager beginners are welcome to join at any time. 

ITF World Championships, South Korea 2010- World Champion from Blackrock Taekwon-Do Club

The 2010 ITF World Championships were held in Cheongju, South Korea, July 4th to 8th. James Dwyer & Paul Manning along with other members of Taekwon-Do Ireland, Stephen Nyhan, Oliver McCarthy and Catherine O'Sullivan and Coach Mr Micheal Burke, traveled as part of Team Ireland to the event. Every one had to register & weight in on July 2nd and after that we had a few days of waiting before the senior sparring started. 

Taekwon-Do Blackbelt Grading 2010

The annual Taekwon-Do Ireland blackbelt grading was held in Carrigaline on June 12th. 26 candidates were successful and were raised to 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th degree blackbelts. Congradulations to all from everyone in Blackrock. Hopefully we will have afew students taking part in next years grading.

Casino Night Fundraiser

TKDI held a Casino Night Fundraiser in Scotts night-club, Cork City on  Saturday May 15th. Everyone enjoyed themselves and all funds raised went to the TKDI Team traveling to Korea in July. 

IUTF Connaught Championships 2010

The Connaught Championships were held in Gort, Go.Galway on Sunday 25th of April. James, Paul and Rekka headed up along with Stephen Nyhan (Innishannon TKD) and Oliver McCarthy(NUI Galway TKD). James fought a fantastic fight against the Dublin fighter who beat him in the Leinster Championships. This time James defeated him to take Gold in Light-Heavy Weight sparring. Paul took gold in the Middle-Weight section to add to his gold in the Leinster and Munster Championships. Rekka competed in the Adult Female section and narrowly loosing to a close fight with a red belt.
